October Blog/Logo Charette Summary

Awe...the fragrance of Panera Bread...
Several of us met together this evening to discuss our blog website and logo design.

I believe the concensus was that we liked the look of the established blog website. A few suggestions were made that included adding some more links such as NCARB/IDP and making the blog picture a little smaller. If anyone has any more ideas on how we can improve our blog website please comment to this post or email us at tulsawomeninarchitecture@gmail.com. There was also some discussion about establishing a clear purpose for this blog site & protecting ourselves & each other with some type of a disclaimer, maybe one that includes some sort of instruction for blogging...something that suggests we not include names of people & firm names in our blogs keeping things general & friendly amongst our peers. We thought it was smart to have nicknames and give "authors" the option of keeping their profiles public or private. Some concerns were expressed...hoping that our blogsite doesn't become a "gripe session", but rather concentrate on a variety of upbeat and fun topics relating to being a woman in the field of architecture. If for some reason someone posts something that is inappropriate for this site or if someone decides they would like to delete their own post, contact tulsawomeninarchitecture@gmail.com and it will be deleted. We decided to go ahead and make this a public blogsite. This will allow anyone to view our website including young ladies in highschool or college. We would like to allow them to comment to our posts & ask questions.

We still need logo ideas!!! We sketched & sketched & wadded up papers... We all seemed to think that the logo ought to compliment & look good with the established website colors & design. The logo can have color. Some of the ideas for text were to use Tulsa Women in Architecture either as is or in a variation such as Tulsa WiA, etc. Another idea was to take a close up photo of an art deco detail and abstract it in photoshop and use it as a graphic for a letter. (i.e. the windows on the Boston Ave. Methodist Church make a W) We liked the simple idea of using letters. Also, we liked the image of a lady with flowing hair & outstretched arms holding up the words Tulsa Women in Architecture. Curving shapes seemed to be popular as well. Keep the ideas coming! The more everyone is involved the more fun it is! We will have an anonymous vote when we've got several good logo options... hopefully very soon! We would like to use the logo for t-shirts & paraphanalia for ourselves & for handing out to girlscouts, highschoolers, college students, guest lecturers, etc. Some other fun ideas were discussed such as wearing the T-shirts in a Tulsa Run or group jog on the River Trails.

We discussed the topic schedule too. Seems to be okay so far... Another idea was to tour the Frank Lloyd Wright house. Also, for connecting to schools... connecting to 5th & 6th graders in particular seemed to be important since that is the age that kids are really starting to think about what they want to do when they grow up. And if we do a "shadowing" with the girls, it should only be an hour and maybe at lunch as to not take too much time away from our work.

Be thinking of new ideas to blog & a logo...

  1. Last night certainly was enjoyable. It had been a while since I'd had the opportunity to see everyone. I'm excited to see things taking off and excited about the direction and enthusiasm of the group. I think we have the potential of impacting women everywhere.

I'll keep sketching and send out any ideas that I feel happy with to the group for critique.
